Photonics I: The theory of light and its advanced applications

The lecture course introduces the relevant models of light & its interaction with matter incuding:

i) ray (geometrical) optics,
ii) wave optics,
iii) electromagnetic optics and semiclassical theory of light-matter interactions and addresses the generation, propagation, manipulation, and advanced applications of light.
Special emphasis of the course material is on the generation of pulsed laser sources, linear and nonlinear optical phenomena and coherent quantum effects.
