Semmelweis University and the Center for Molecular Fingerprinting (CMF) are nearing the completion of a groundbreaking collaborative data science research initiative under the John von Neumann Institute for Data Science, jointly established by the two institutions. This state-of-the-art institute aims to transform healthcare by integrating advanced molecular fingerprinting and profiling techniques developed at CMF into comprehensive health datasets. This synergy will enable the early detection of diseases with the potential to develop into chronic conditions and provide a holistic perspective on human health.
The institute’s research will initially focus on five core areas: molecular phenotyping, causal inference in medical information, health-data digitization, artificial intelligence, and healthcare landscape analysis. In its first phase, dedicated research teams will prioritize the first three areas.
Beyond its research mission, the institute will also serve an educational purpose. It plans to introduce a workshop-style elective course at the undergraduate level, as well as an interdisciplinary doctoral program targeting MSc graduates in fields such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, and medicine.
