On Wednesday, the students of our IMPRS-APS experienced a special highlight. Together with Françoise Delplancke-Ströbele from the European Southern Observatory (ESO), IMPRS coordinator Lena Beggel organized a visit to the ESO for the students.

The young researchers, alongside colleagues from other research institutions, gained an exciting insight into the work of astronomers. The group visited a wide variety of laboratories, focusing on the important role of optics and photonics in the exploration of our universe.

An additional key highlight was a look into the large integration hall where ESO engineers assemble and test advanced astronomical systems.

IMPRS offers interdisciplinary activities like this to broaden students’ perspectives and connect them with peers from various fields. More events are already being planned – stay tuned!
